Non-personnel expense category = a type of good or service purchased by the company

Examples
  • Outsourcing cleaning involves expenses for cleaning supplies.
  • Integrating touchless takeout involves expenses for takeout packaging.

  • Selling secret sauce at retail involves expenses for product manufacturing, product distribution, and product display materials.

Tips
  • When possible, use existing expense categories from your department or company budget.

  • To start, use general categories (office supplies) for big/complex Ideas, and more detailed categories (printer cartridges) for small/simple Ideas.

  • As the Idea develops, a Value Item may be split into multiple more detailed Value Items.
